We have a couple of school students staying with us now (brother and sister). So, we decided to take them somewhere the day they had nothing scheduled on (that was the 6th of January). My husband likes surprises! He told us all to get dressed; loaded us into the car and took us somewhere :)
Ok, he had to tell me before the arrival as he needed my help to check GPS while he was driving. He said:
- We are not lost if we eventually come to the zoo.
- Even if it is the Toronto zoo? - I asked.
When everybody saw the sign, he told the kids:
- We are going to the zoo, by the way!
And here we are, coming in:
The Vancouver zoo is big, so we started with checking the map. It is not as big as I thought, though. I was thinking of the Toronto zoo, probably, when expected it to be just huge. The Vancouver zoo is very much walk-able (that was a pleasant surprise to me).
First of all we went to the vivarium. This big guy was the most impressive thing there!
This lizard behaved in a funny way. It was so interested in me! I am afraid it would try and taste me if there was no glass!
The peacocks were just walking around. I spotted one of them by the cafe. I think we all guess what he hoped for (a bowl of poutine, of course!)
But the way, they have lots of fake animals there in case the real ones are sleeping in a far corner and you cannot see them!
Lovely ducks (I think they are ducks of some kind):
Just walking:
Some of us are lucky enough and do not need to walk all the way. Catching a ride seems to be a good idea!
We went to the zoo on the next day after the Chinese New Year. This is probably why they had those nice lanterns up:
I love horses and this climbable sculpture especially!
Another lovely duck:
One of my favourite animals (this one is real)!
Friendly passengers:
Another fake animal is small enough to sit on:
Another awesome fake animal (we have seen the real thing too, but it is not easy to take a good picture as the animals are either too far or there is a fence on the camera's way):
The kids' playground is awesome!
